Synopsis

The album is actually an operetta that is in turn a sequel to Woody Allen’s Sweet & Lowdown. It is a fantasy of a Django Reinhardt sojourn to the South Pacific in 1947. Here he meets up with Duke Kahanamoku at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel and the comedy of errors with the Dukes Ellington & Kahanamoku

 
 

It’s not just the music that is so great.. and it is. The tunes selected are toe tapping and romantic arrangements of the finest swing in the world in the post War period. Duke Ellington is touring the East Coast and Midwest with the great Django Reinhardt - the heroic and iconic guitarist from France. Django - the itinerant Gypsy - takes off on a Gauguinesque journey to the South Pacific. He ends up in Hawaii doing what he does. Cathching fish and smoking it in his hotel suite much to the chagrin of the hotel keepers. All while being the huge international star that everybody wants to get to know. So this album and package takes you there. It is filled with mementos and souvenirs of his travels - his passport, the love letter from the smitten young lady from Harrisburg that starts it all. The Newsletter from Waikiki in 1947 with the interview with Django.
