Café Américain
The Best Picture of 1942 - Casablanca - has inspired the Hot Club of Hulaville to present a Dinner Show at 6:30 & 8:30 pm. This will be a Dinner Show the likes of which you haven't seen in a long time.
What to expect:
•An Exotic Moroccan Menu
•Great Wine Pairings
•Music & Attire directly from the film.
•Fezzes!
•You are a very big part of the show. Bring your inner Bergman and Bogie. Dress the part. We love Sydney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre. As for Paul Heinreid... not so much. Great clothes however!
•A memorable prize for the best Claude Rains as Inspector Louis Renault.
•Try to learn a bit of La Marseillaise and Knock on Wood
"This could be the start of a beautiful friendship!" The Hot Club of Hulaville, Stage Restaurant and Cupola Theatre at the Honolulu Design Center wish to announce a great partnership for great Dinner Theatre, Music and Dancing. Throughout the year, Hawaii's Na Hoku Hanohano winning art ensemble will bring great presentations to Honolulu audiences with new and classic Hulaville performances to Stage Restaurant & Cupola Theatre.
Café Américain is the first. It is a loving tribute to the film Casablanca. This movie, a triple Oscar™ winner in 1942, is still on almost everybody's Top 10 Movies of All Time - a movie about love, and the relinquishing of it, for an even more important purpose... What purpose could that ever be? We say here in our comfortable confines. But these characters were not in comfort. Nor were they idealists or zealots. They were pragmatic survivors and realists. So many icons in so little time.
But the movie is above all entertaining and has a great music score. For instance, everyone knows the classic "As Time Goes By." But there are other great notables. They include "It Had to Be You", "Shine","Avalon", "Perfidia", "The Very Thought of You." And much more. There was a lot of incidental music that was in the film as snippets and set pieces. You'll hear them and others performed in Hulaville style and romance. There will be seductive twists and turns throughout.
The Hulaville Players for this wonderful evening include: Ms. Willow Chang-Alléon - chanteuse; Mr. Duane Padilla on violin; Mr. Sonny Silva on guitar; Mr. Ernie Provencher on bass; and Mr. Joshua Kaye on keyboards.
